SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER
The Blaine County Sheriff's School Resource Officer Program is a cooperative effort with the Blaine County School District to prevent drug abuse in the lives of our most precious resource. our youth. The emphasis of this educational program is to recognize and resist pressures that may influence young people to experiment with drugs, gangs, or violence. The program provides a deputy to 6 county schools: Hemingway Elementary, Hailey Elementary, Bellevue Elementary, the Middle School, the Carey School and Wood River High School. The School Resource Officer is responsible for teaching targeted drug education and invaluable personal safety information on four major topics to Blaine County students:
- Methamphetamine
- Gangs
- Internet / Cell Phone Safety
- Alcohol, Marijuana, Tobacco
The SRO Deputy is instrumental in dealing with all criminal activity occurring on school property and as a counselor for students. Additionally, the SRO Deputy assists with "Tech" classes, after school programs, field trips and educating school staff about the warning signs of drug usage and gang activities. Police Activities League
POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE
The Police Activities League is a crime prevention program that relies on educational, athletic and other recreational activities to promote trust and understanding between law enforcement and the youth in our community. By participating in P.A.L. activities, young people of Blaine County develop skills, make new friends, and learn new ways to have fun in a safe and healthy environment. The young people who participate in P.A.L. are further rewarded with a positive interaction with the police and develop a sense of "community" that has an effect on their choices the rest of their lives.
