On Monday, December 30, 2019, at approximately 1:30 p.m. deputies from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 75 at the entrance to the Lake Creek Trail Head, north of Ketchum, Idaho.
The crash scene investigation determined that Patrick M. Spalding, age 37 of San Francisco, California, was driving northbound on Highway 75 in a 2019 Jeep Compass when he struck a 2006 GMC Canyon driven by Gabriel J. Martinez, age 26 of Nampa, Idaho, from the rear.
The investigation determined that Spalding did not see the GMC slowing down to turn at the Trailhead and was unable to react quickly enough to avoid crashing into the back of the GMC. Spalding and his juvenile passenger were both wearing their seatbelts and were uninjured in the crash. Martinez and passenger Brila A. Martinez, age 25 of Nampa, Idaho, were also both wearing seatbelts. Brila Martinez was transported to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center for medical evaluation.
Both vehicles sustained substantial damages. Spalding was cited for Following Too Closely, I.C. 49-638.
