An investigation into fraudulent charges on a company credit card has resulted in felony charges for a vacationer.
Deputies of the Ketchum Police Division of the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office began the investigation after an employee of a property rental business with a company-issued credit card reported finding charges on his card that he did not make.
The investigation determined that Virgil Cedric Penalva, age 27 of Hollywell, Australia allegedly found the credit card in a house he was renting while here on vacation and fraudulently used it in multiple businesses in Ketchum and Sun Valley, Idaho. The fraudulent charges to the credit card amount to $3,547.02. Penalva was arrested on January 10, 2020, and charged with one count of felony Possession of a Financial Transaction Card, I.C. 18-3125, and one count felony Grand Theft, 18-2407(1).
Penalva remains in custody of the Blaine County Detention Center pending arraignment today at 1:15 p.m. in Magistrate Court.
