A crash scene investigation by the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office into an August 8, 2018 rollover injury crash on Gannett Rd. south of Labrador Lane in Bellevue, Idaho has resulted in the identification of the actual driver of one of the vehicles.
Calub Carl Castle, age 23 of Bellevue, Idaho, allegedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The investigation determined that two white trucks were traveling south side by side at speeds well above the posted speed limit. The other vehicle was driven by James Everitt Thomas, age 19 of Hailey, with passenger Tanner Blaine Cheney, age 30 of Wendell, Idaho. Witnesses report that Castle, driving at a high rate of speed, entered the wrong lane of travel to block Thomas’ vehicle from passing. Thomas’s vehicle left the roadway on the east side of Gannett Rd. and rolled several times before coming to rest upside down. Castle, exited his vehicle approximately two miles from the crash scene, leaving passengers to return to the rollover crash. Castle knowingly left the scene and did not return or report the incident. Both Thomas and Cheney were ejected and received serious injuries.
Castle was arrested on September 18, 2018 on a felony charge of Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, Idaho Code 18-8007, and a misdemeanor charge of Reckless Driving, Idaho Code 49-1401. Castle who is also currently on Felony Probation was arraigned on both a probation violation and the new charges. Bond on the crash related charges was set at $100,000. He remains in custody of the Blaine County Detention Center without bond on the felony probation violation.
