On September 21, 2018 at approximately 2:24 a.m. deputies from the Blaine County Sheriff Office were dispatched to reports of possible shots fired and an individual disturbing the peace at the North Fork Trailer Park located at 13574 Highway 75,
north of Ketchum, Idaho. Witnesses reported what they believed to be the sound of firing of a rifle coming from an individual near a bonfire.
When located, Morton Lee Zerby, age 59 of Bellevue, Idaho, was confrontational and non-complaint. Zerby resisted officers several times, including running towards deputies in an aggressive manner, swinging a belt with a metal buckle over his head, threatening deputies with piece of wood, and fighting with deputies. A Taser was eventually deployed to subdue Zerby.
During his arrest, a gas can that Zerby had previously placed on the bonfire exploded, sending flames approximately 15 feet into the air. The Ketchum Fire Department was dispatched to extinguish the fire.
Zerby was arrested for Assault Upon an Officer, I.C. 18-915, Resisting an Officer, I.C. 18-705, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, I.C. 37-2724A(1), all misdemeanors. No firearm was located.
