Press Release - Felony Aggravated Battery Arrest

Royer Huamani Quispe

On October 14, 2018 at approximately 2:23 a.m. Blaine County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Limelight Hotel in Ketchum, Idaho for a disturbance report. Deputies witnessed a person who had just exited from a hotel side door who was yelling ...

and appeared to be angry with a large wooden plank in his hand. This person was later identified at Royer Huamani Quispe, age 24 of Ketchum, Idaho. Huamani Quispe appeared to be in some sort of confrontation with hotel employee Zynall Kumar, age 35 of Las Vegas Nevada.

Huamani Quispe, holding the plank was walking toward Kumar in a threatening manner.  A Blaine County deputy ordered Huamani Quispe to stop and drop the plank. Huamani Quispe continued to advance with the plank raised as a weapon.  Huamani Quispe was again ordered to stop and informed that a less than lethal device called a Taser would be deployed if he did not. Huamani Quispe continued to advance towards the deputy who was now standing between the two subjects. The deputy deployed his Taser, striking Huamani Quispe in the upper torso, subduing him to the ground and dropping the plank. Sun Valley Police Department Officers assisted in placing Huamani Quispe in handcuffs. While Huamani Quispe was awaiting to be medically cleared for transport, he continued to resist and kicked a Sun Valley Police Officer in the groin area.

Kumar later reported that while doing his rounds he encountered Huamani Quispe stumbling through the entrance of the carport. Kumar reported that Huamani Quispe punched him a few times in the forehead and cheek.

Huamani Quispe was charged with felony Aggravated Assault, I.C. 18-905, Battery on an Officer, I.C. 18-903, and misdemeanor Resisting and Obstructing Arrest. I.C. 18-705. Huamani Quispe is being held in the Blaine county Detention Center pending arraignment.
