BCSO1901-0004 013

On Wednesday January 2, 2019 at approximately 2:34 p.m. Blaine County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 75 near Alturas Drive north of Hailey, Idaho.

Meghan L. O’Brien, age 29 of San Francisco, CA who was traveling southbound on Hwy 75 in a 2018 Hyundai Tucson, was unable to stop in time when the vehicle in front of her made a quick stop. O’Brien collided with the rear of a blue 2015 Nissan Frontier driven by Lorena Corona Ruiz, age 46 of Hailey, Idaho. Corona Ruiz had two passengers in the vehicle, who were not injured. Corona Ruiz and O’Brien were both transported to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. All parties were wearing seatbelts.

The Nissan was driven from the scene with moderate rear end damages. The Hyundai was towed from the scene with extensive front end damages. Southbound traffic on Highway 75 was diverted from Alturas Drive to Ohio Gulch Rd. while emergency responders tended to the injured. Witnesses reported that numerous vehicles had to make quick stops to avoid a herd of elk crossing the highway.
