On Sunday, September 10, 2023, at approximately 4:51 a.m., Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a rollover crash with injuries on State Highway 75 near Baseline Rd. in Bellevue, Idaho.
Upon investigation, deputies observed a 2008 silver Ford Escape laying on its roof facing west of the shoulder of the southbound lane, broken wooden fence posts, and a sheared-off wooden telephone pole lying on the ground near the Ford. A live electrical telephone wire was across the width of the highway requiring deputies to close both lanes of Hwy 75 and redirect traffic.
Crash scene investigation determined that the Ford was traveling north on Hwy 75 and failed to negotiate a sweeping right curve in the road near milepost 105. The Ford left the roadway, lost control, rolled multiple times, and collided with a telephone pole and a wooden fence before coming to rest on its roof.
According to witness reports, the driver, a 35-year-old male from Hailey, Idaho, initially fled the scene but later returned to answer questions. The driver sustained minor injuries. The front seat passenger, a 37-year-old male from Bellevue, Idaho, received life-threatening injuries and was transported via ground ambulance to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center and later taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho.
Criminal charges are pending the results of laboratory tests.
